Our class will introduce your children to various styles and types of music, encourage them to respond
to music, allows hands-on access to a variety of instruments, invites them to compose their own songs, helps them understand music basics such as rhythm, tempo, dynamics and pitch.
Music Fun is a one-hour weekly enrichment class offered at Narrows Co-op for children between the ages of three and five. For the 2010-2011 school year, the Music Fun class meets on Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Music Fun DOES:
· Introduce children to various styles and types of music, from Bach to rock!
· Encourage children to respond to music through movement, games, song and dance.
· Allow children hands-on access to a variety of basic instruments.
· Invite children to compose their own songs and rhythm patterns.
· Involve children in making simple musical instruments and music props.
· Help children to understand music basics such as rhythm, tempo, dynamics and pitch.
Music Fun is NOT designed to:
· Teach children how to read music
· Teach children to play instruments which require specific fingerings
· Teach children to sing
· Teach children to dance
Music Fun IS designed to meet the National Music Education Standards developed by the Music Educators National Conference. These standards state that pre-kindergarten children should:
· Sing and play instruments
· Create music
· Respond to music
· Understand music
